Dixie Crawford

Dixie Crawford

Director, The People Initiative

Dixie Crawford is a Barkindji woman living on Ngemba and Wiradjuri Country with a career that’s spanned government, corporate and community sectors over two decades. She’s built her work around one clear belief: people deserve real choice, respect and self-determination when it comes to their careers.

Frustrated by the transactional nature of mainstream recruitment, Dixie set out to do things differently. She wanted to create something that listened harder, responded faster and placed real people and not just resumes at the centre. For Dixie, this is personal. It's about helping people take control of their futures and supporting organisations to move from intention to impact.

Her approach is grounded in lived experience, deep listening and action. Whether it's placing someone in their next role or helping a business build a culturally safe workforce, Dixie brings equal parts heart and strategy. At its core, The People Initiative reflects her values: fairness, contribution and connection.

The People Initiative acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of Country throughout this land and recognises their connection throughout time to lands and waters. We admire the collective wisdom of First Nations communities in health, spiritual wellbeing, caring for Country, science, education, and trade and local economies. We recognise the past provides us each with an opportunity to have a better understanding of ourselves and the world we are connected to. We remember, honour, and have a deep appreciation for First Nations people and communities who have and are emotionally, physically, spiritually, and culturally harmed by colonisation.

This country was never ceded—it always was, and always will be Aboriginal land.
